Morgenhof is open for exploration

With great excitement this writer drove through the gates of the Morgenhof Estate, this past Tuesday, to have lunch with the new Captains of this historic landholding from Unipalm Investment Holdings.

Like all wine farms of this size and history, there is the expected beauty of impressive buildings, views to die for and vineyards in their autumn hues of gold, red and pale green.

What was not expected, was the transformational plans, to turn Morgenhof into a family-friendly lifestyle and leisure estate.

Samantha Petersen and Salman Kajie

Samantha Petersen and Salman Kajie, both characters of distinction, bubbled with enthusiasm as they relayed their vision of a bustling hub, filled with children of all ages, endearing couples, adrenaline junkies and earnest business-people.

Both hail from Cape Town where they have lived and worked most of their lives. Samantha has a background in Marketing and PR, while Salman gained his management experience at organisations such as Wesgro, HiSense and Discovery. Of note is his steering to establish the Western Cape arm of InvestSA Onestop Shop.

According to Salman, plans include a day-spa, a variety of eateries, thrilling biking trails, all while maintaining premium wine-making. Another focus is event hosting and not just weddings, as the Estate is known for. One of Samantha’s passions is the promotion of small businesses, particularly those owned by women. Morgenhof hosted a successful Pop-Up market earlier this month and this will be a regular feature when warmer weather returns in Spring.

20 Year-old Unipalm considers itself a leader in economic transformation, and is rightly proud of its acquisition (since December 2021).

I will be following and relaying their story with great anticipation!

PS: The chicken wrap with salad from the halaal and kosher of 1692 (the restaurant) ….was the most flavourful I’ve had!
